Saginaw Valley State University celebrates Holi

The South Asian Student Association of Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan, celebrated Indian festival of Colors, Holi on April 8th. This year’s celebration marked the fourth year of celebration in the university.

The celebrations continued through the afternoon, with more than 600 people, including faculty members, students and South Asian community. University President, Dr. Donald Bach and Provost, Dr. Deborah Huntley were the chief guests.

The main attractions of the indoor celebrations were a series of cultural programs followed by delicious food. A Mehendi-Henna Tattoo booth for students and guests and a photo booth for visitors, who wanted to capture the fun moments during the event.

A local Indian restaurant organized the lunch, and soon after the cultural programs started with the President of South Asian Student Community, Ipsit Patki welcomed everyone to be a part of this grand event of India. The three hour long indoor program ended with a musical performance by Bishrut and Sandesh followed by a thank you note and distribution of prizes for the winners of the dance and an art competition.

In the outdoor event, all the students and faculty members got together and played Holi with the President of University Dr Donald Bachand and Provost, Dr Deborah Huntley.

The primary mission of the event was to celebrate the diversity and embrace cultural awareness on campus. Other than various mini events, the South Asian Association organizes the India’s signature event, Holi every year in April.
