India's success rate in space research like satellite systems and communication has gone to umpteen heights during the tenure of K Radhakrishnan as ISRO chairman. India created history by entering Mars orbiter in maiden attempt. He addressed at an event in Kolkata, where he was awarded PC Chandra Puraskaar (a national award), by the PC Chandra Group.

He said that India is the role model in space research, while saying, "The vision of Vikram Sarabhai, our founder, was that this high technology (space science) should be beneficial for the people of this country, for the governance of this country and that is what we have been doing in this area. I am happy to say India is a role model in the whole world in how space can be used for benefits of the people in this country."

He said the space technology has been helping , farmers and disaster managers in India in early warnings and other services. He also said that the school children, younger generation of the nation and world is keenly watching at the space research organization after Mars mission. He is currently serving as the chairman of Indian Institutes of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, in West Bengal.
