President, Barack Obama is schedule to visit Detroit auto show on January 20. The visit will emphasize the reinforcement of the city and the auto industry. The industry is worth $85 million. A White House spokesman, Keith Maley, said that, during the trip to Detroit, president aims to put stress on over 640,000 auto-industry jobs due to the record auto sales in 2015.

It will be Obama’s first visit to the North American International Auto Show and 17th tour to Michigan during his presidential tenure. Details about the president’s other stops in the city, will be provided later, The White House announcement said. Obama’s visit is an “honour” said, Rob Alberts, Executive director of the show and the Detroit Auto Dealers Association that hosts the show. “What it really does is it underscores the importance and magnitude of the global news that comes out of our show. Having not just the vehicles themselves, but all of the advanced technologies that are going to shape the future of our industry,” Alberts added.

Former presidents Bill Clinton and Dwight Eisenhower had attended the Detroit auto show during 1999 and in the late 1950s, respectively. Obama will be the third president to visit the auto show. Members of Congress as well as other political leaders visit the auto show, every year. Joe Biden, Vice President, attended the show in 2014.  “The president and administration have been great friends to the city of Detroit, and we look forward to showing him our progress,” a statement from Detroit Mayor, Mike Duggan’s office revealed. He said the city is “totally coordinated with the federal government” on all safety issues for the show. “I think you’re going to see very good security.”
