MEA Announces Passport Seva App to Simplify Process

The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday announced a new service, Passport Seva App for seamless application and the issue of passports. The app has been launched to make things easier in the completion of the whole process and referred it as a ‘passport revolution’.

According to an ANI report, Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj said with the Passport Seva app, now not only can you apply for a passport from any part of the country, but all the other procedures can be done based via the app as well.

She has been quoted as saying, "Police verification will be done on the address you will give on the app. The passport will be dispatched to that address."

Steps to apply for a passport via the Passport Seva App:

Create a user login

Create a user login, but in case you already have an account on the Passport Seva website, you can use those login credentials.

Locate Passport Seva Kendra

Locate a Passport Seva Kendra nearest to you.

Track application status

You can track your passport application status for the post you have applied

Know your region police station

For police verification, know which police station falls under your area, since for the formalities the applicant has to reach there.

Payment details

You can check the amount required to pay. The fare for children varies from that of an adult applicant.

Form download

After filling required details and information, you can download the filled form.

Appointment

The applicant has an option to choose the date as per their convenience when you would wish to visit Passport Seva Kendra to file your passport.

Non-Resident Indian application

The Non-Resident Indian passport application category online is only for NRIs under the authority of the respective missions are entitled to apply for passport online.

Grievance/feedback

The app has as well an option to file grievances or give any relevant feedback to the authorities.

New guidelines

On the occasion of Passport Seva Diwas, Swaraj introduced new guidelines that commit to reducing the hassle of the applicants. Like the rule to provide for a marriage certificate has been scrapped and divorced women will no longer be required to fill the name of their ex-husband and their children of their estranged father because this rule too has been scrapped after receiving numerous complaints.
